Awesome Harness Engineering: A Map for Reliable AI Agents
A model on its own does not make a reliable agent. The hard part is everything around it — context, tools, memory, permissions, and checking that the thing actually did what it said — and that work now has a map.
Awesome Harness Engineering is a curated GitHub list of resources, patterns, and templates for builders designing AI agent harnesses. It is open-source under CC0 1.0 Universal, so you can lift the templates straight into your own project.

What the List Contains
Instead of sorting links by vendor, the repo sorts them by the harness problem they solve. You browse design primitives for agent loops, planning, context delivery, tools, permissions, memory, orchestration, verification, and observability — so you land on the material for the problem you are stuck on right now, not on a list of products.
A Foundations section starts you off with essays and guides that define harness engineering and its core components. From there, the reference implementations gather tutorials, generators, demo harnesses, and adjacent collections in one place.
The reusable templates are the part you can use today: starting points for AGENTS.md, PLAN.md, and IMPLEMENT.md, plus a harness review checklist.
The list also keeps a deliberately opinionated contribution bar. A new addition has to address a specific harness problem and explain why it belongs, which is why it stays a map rather than a link dump.
Why It Matters
Most agent advice is really model advice, and it stops being useful the moment your loop breaks on context or a tool call. This one is organized around the harness itself, so the material you find matches the part you are actually debugging.
The practical move is to start with the Foundations essays, then take the AGENTS.md, PLAN.md, and IMPLEMENT.md templates and the review checklist and run them against a harness you already have. You will see quickly which pieces you never built.
