How to Learn Agent Engineering With the Agentic Engineering Handbook

Teaching yourself to build AI agents usually means bouncing between scattered tutorials that never quite line up. The Agentic Engineering Handbook is a repo that puts the whole path in one place. It sorts 181 curated resources into phases, so you always know what to read next.

That is a lot of material, but it comes pre-sorted: the roadmap runs from first principles to applied practice, and it labels what is essential instead of leaving you to guess.

How to Learn Agent Engineering With the Agentic Engineering Handbook

Tutorial

  1. Pick the starting path that matches your goal. The repo offers four: learning agents, filling gaps in LLM apps, building projects, or finding references.
  2. Start with Phase 0. It holds five progressive agent-loop tutorials plus Python examples you can work through.
  3. Work through the six phases in order. The roadmap covers agent loops, foundations, MCP, context and memory, harnesses, coding agents, and evals.
  4. Start each phase with its Read First picks. The follow-up reading and build exercises come after those.
  5. Use the P0, P1, and P2 labels to set your priority. P0 is essential reading, P1 is implementation detail, and P2 is background.
  6. Continue into an applied practice track. Coding workflows, context failure modes, evals, security, code review, and SRE are all covered.

Wrapping Up

You now have a route through agent engineering instead of a folder of half-finished tabs: pick a path, do the Phase 0 tutorials, then let the P0 labels decide what you read first. Members who learn best by building can jump straight to the practice tracks once the agent loop clicks. Either way, there is always a clear next thing to open.
