Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses post biggest quarter yet

Smart glasses just posted the biggest quarterly jump of any consumer hardware category. The pair driving that surge is Meta Ray-Ban, and what gets people to actually wear them is a camera plus a multimodal AI assistant you talk to instead of tap.

Apple is not in the mass market with this yet, and Samsung and Google are said to be planning for 2027. So the category is being defined right now, not five years from now.

What Happened

Meta Ray-Ban is the best-selling product in the category and holds the dominant share of the market. The frame weighs close to a pair of ordinary glasses, which is what separates it from the headset-style devices people leave on a shelf.

Apple's Vision Pro has not reached the mass market. Samsung and Google reportedly have their own plans pointed at 2027, so the field stays open for a while yet.

Analysts quoted in the discussion predict this form factor will replace the phone touchscreen as the main way people interact with AI before the end of the decade. That is a prediction, not a result, but it is the reason the sales numbers got attention.

Why It Matters

Three things make these different from the smart glasses of a few years ago. The assistant is always on, so the loop is simple: you see something, you ask, you get an answer. Your hands stay free, which changes what you can do while wearing them. And the camera shoots without you raising a hand, so capturing something for content stops being a whole production.

The post frames it plainly — not an expensive toy, not a gimmick, but the next channel for talking to AI. Whether or not the analyst timeline holds, the point stands: the interface is moving off the screen and onto your face, and the pair that made that real is already on sale.
