Google Limits Gemini Model Access by Plan on October 9
Hunting through your Gemini plan to work out which model you actually get? That list changes on October 9. Google is reshuffling Gemini model access by subscription, and the free tier is the one that feels it most.
Here is the short version. On Free you reach Flash-Lite and nothing heavier. AI Plus loses Pro. Only AI Pro and Ultra still get Pro.

What Happened
Starting October 9, Gemini model access follows your plan instead of being the same for everyone:
- Free → access to Flash-Lite only.
- AI Plus → no longer gets the Pro model, only Flash.
- AI Pro & Ultra → keep access to the Pro model.
The change takes effect on October 9. That date is the switch, not a heads-up about something further out.
Why It Matters
If you use Gemini on a free account, Flash-Lite is what you will be talking to after October 9. It is the lightest of the models named, so any work that leaned on a heavier one either needs a plan change or a different tool.
AI Plus is the awkward middle. You keep paying and you keep Flash, but the step up to Pro is now locked behind AI Pro or Ultra. Worth checking what your own plan includes before the date arrives, because the switch happens on Google's side and you do not get to opt out of it.
