qm: Y Combinator's Open-Source Agent for Slack Teams

Y Combinator has an open-source agent for teams, and it has already passed 15,000 stars. It lives in Slack and the web, and every person gets their own workspace instead of everyone crowding into one shared login.

What makes it interesting is what stays separate: memory, files, permissions and scheduled tasks, per person and per channel, each with a persistent sandbox underneath.

qm: Y Combinator's Open-Source Agent for Slack Teams

What Happened

qm is Y Combinator's open-source team edition agent, built for Slack and web interfaces. It has racked up more than 15,000 stars.

Each person gets an independent workspace, while the same agent can still be shared in channels, group chats and projects with the rest of the team. Memory, files, permissions and scheduled tasks are managed separately for each person and each channel. Each one is assigned a long-term persistent sandbox, so the tools installed there don't get lost.

The system underneath can be swapped for Claude Code or Pi, models can be chosen as needed, and it runs on your own cloud using your own key.

Why It Matters

In practice it covers the boring, useful work: searching internal docs and email in one place, building small internal tools, drafting replies in your own tone, and going into a code repo to run tests and submit PRs.

The contribution rules are unusual. You can only submit text-based suggestions written by a person, not code. If the direction lines up, the team implements it themselves. That keeps the codebase consistent, but it also means you can't just open a pull request and walk away.
