Samsung New Zealand Hires a Real Tim Cook for the Galaxy Z Fold8

Samsung New Zealand wanted to poke at Apple, so it went out and found a Tim Cook. Not the Apple CEO — a real estate agent who happens to share the name exactly.

Then it handed him the Galaxy Z Fold8 and let the internet do the rest. Nobody has to mention the iPhone for the point to land.

Samsung New Zealand Hires a Real Tim Cook for the Galaxy Z Fold8

What Happened

Samsung New Zealand put together a marketing stunt built on a single coincidence: there is a working real estate agent in Palmerston North, New Zealand, whose name is Tim Cook, matching the Apple CEO's name letter for letter.

The company gave this Tim Cook a Galaxy Z Fold8 and put him in the promotion. The joke is the name, and it works because nothing about it is faked — the man is a genuine agent doing his actual job, not an actor playing a part.

Read between the lines and the pitch writes itself: Tim Cook, put down the iPhone and try the Fold8.

Why It Matters

This is a brand picking a fight without ever naming its rival. Samsung gets to aim a line at Apple's CEO, and Apple has nothing to respond to, because no claim was actually made.

It is also a reminder of how cheap a good stunt can be. No celebrity fee, no licensing deal, no product comparison chart — just a name that already existed and a phone to hand over.

If you follow phone marketing at all, this is one to keep in your pocket. The cleverest jab in the room is often the one that never says the other company's name.
